IHS and IHC are symbols of Jesus. The letters IHC were later 'translated' into the Latin form 'IHS. Michelle directed me to these sites that were great, http://www.churchmonumentssociety.org/newfile21.htm

Last weekend as luck would have it, I found myself wandering with camera in hand in a very old cemetery in our neck of the woods, it was fascinating and the children and I found ourselves fascinated with inscriptions, symbols, and details on the headstones.
One symbol on many of the headstones this S with lines though it, it always had three lines , but not always with the cross. I am hoping that someone can enlighten me on this one - This may perhaps be up Michael orJudy's Ally. I would love to solve this one. 
This Kookaburra had a birds eye view literally from this lofty lookout, it was quite unperturbed by our presence. It was so peaceful amongst the overgrown headstones.
This saintly lady looks rather majestic against the washed out Autumn sky which seems to have at last decided to grace us with her presence, as I sit here feeling the slight chill I am very grateful for my new snug PJ's thanks mum!
